EWB Fall 2015

Fall 2015 has left and gone, but we at Engineers Without Borders are proud that it was a success. October was a busy month for our organization, we sent ten members to a conference in College Station, Texas.

They met with other Texas chapters of EWB and gained a plethora of new ideas to help later on with our current and any future projects as well as cultivate new contacts.

Zombie Run

Our big fall fundraiser was the Zombie Run, our amazing members worked hard all of October building the obstacles for the participants to enjoy.
We had pallets and tires donated, and used SGA funding to buy the wood. We enjoyed several days making a mess of Jon Baker's driveway. Everyone was doing something whether it was tearing apart pallets, sawing, drilling, hammering,
or spray painting we all worked hard to finish all of the obstacles we had first sketched up and planned to put into the run.

Face painting, a jumping balloon, food, live music, our event had it all.
It was a beautiful evening for a run filled with our home made obstacles and of course the occasional zombie chase. Participants as well as volunteers enjoyed this fun activity. We were able to make a profit on this event, though it wasn't as large as we anticipated.

Wrapping Up the Semester

After our big fundraiser passed we continued to do some smaller fundraisers towards the end of the semester. We did several baked-goods-for-donation type of fundraisers, that were led by our Fundraising Chair, David Boyle. The Make Lubbock Beautiful community service event fell through, but our Community Service Chair, Duncan Lewis, put together a new event for our members to go help out at Morris Safe House, a shelter for abandoned dogs.
Our officers and members put in a lot of time and work for EWB so as a thank you we finished the semester off with a bonfire social at David Boyle's house. We made some s'mores and enjoyed to company of each other without having to focus on something to work on. It was a wonderful time and we hope to do more social events in the future to further bond our members.

Solong Project

While we built obstacles, made baked goods, and visited animals, our Project Lead, Jon Baker, Co-Project Lead Michael Yon, and Internal Vice President Jon Vue, worked along with our members on our water purification project.
They have been building and testing the rain catching system and finished the 523 report, which was the alternative analysis report, for our Solong Project. Even amongst all other responsibilities and activities we always made sure that the project was making progress so that we can fulfill our goal of having our first implementation trip Summer 2016. Our chapter is incredibly blessed with hard-working officers and members, willing to put in the time and effort necessary to eventually bless a village in Panama in need of clean water.

Close

Fall of 2015 was a whirlwind of activities and success. We are so grateful for our wonderful members, officers, and sponsors. We are looking forward to a new year, new goals, new members, new officers, and new achievements. It is going to be spectacular, I promise.
